Staff Council Minutes - for January 14, 2009

Opening: The meeting was called to order at 10:04 a.m. by Cecilia Elmore. The meeting was held in the Silver and Gold Room of the Havener Center.
Minutes from December 10 meeting were read and approved.
Jerry Parmeley, Wellness Coordinator for the Healthy for Life Program presented to this council. The Healthy for Life Program began a pilot program with the University Hospital. This program now spans across all four campuses. The program was created to decrease health care cost. Between the years of 2007 and 2008 health care cost increased 54%. Some of the programs the Healthy for Life Program offers include Stress management, weight loss, inactivity, and smoking sensation. The million step program takes 4 or 5 months to complete. Employees pay $15.00 and receive a pedometer. Once they reach one million steps they are reimbursed their money. Weight management is a 16 week Weight Watchers at work. The cost for this program is $156.00. Eat for Life is a 10 week program and the cost of this program is $40.00. This program is designed to be mindful of what you put in your mouth. The stress reduction is workshops and blackboard classes that has mediation sessions and is lead by an instructor. S&T had a great turn out for GRACE. Donations given after the collection boxes had already been distributed to GRACE were given to the Russell House
Debbie Middendorf will be the point of contact for collection of monetary donations for the Friday Backpack program
