Staff Council Minutes - For October 08, 2008

Opening

The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Cecilia Elmore.  The meeting was held in the Silver and Gold room of the Havener Center.

 

Guest speakers Dr. Fleck and Dr. Burns updated this council on the functions of the Critical Incident Task Force (CITF).  A presentation was given by Dr. Fleck and Dr. Burns indicating there involvement in student behavior and how the CITF committee reviews problematic behaviors seen in some students, mostly mental health, and how this task force assists in keeping these students enrolled in classes.  The task forces has discussions of a Prevention and Planning stage that is a fact gathering process to understand the student's situation and the assessment process and remedy of the situation.  The Task Force is designed as early intervention and helping the student be aware of programs and resources on campus.  Dr. Fleck introduced CITF website and the online forms that students, faculty and staff may use anonymously to report a concern or wellbeing of a student.

 

Minutes from the September 10, 2008 meeting were read and approved.

 

 


Treasurer's Report:

??         $271.00 was spent to re-new the annual insurance certificate for Hi-Striker for use on campus.  This covers any department or organization to use.

??         $7.14 to purchase supplies for a new treasurer book.

GO: $10,196.40

Special Events: $2,231.67

Old Business:

  • Deb Middendorf was elected to the Personnel Committee
  • The IT Committee has been tabled
  • Staff Council meetings will be held in the Silver and Gold room through May of 2009

 New Business

  • Staff Council has reserved rooms for the Rolla Chapter of Relay For Life
  • May First and Second will be the Walk for Life sponsored by Relay For Life.
  • List Serves to be updated soon, Cecilia Elmore was just granted access for updates.

 
COMMITTEE REPORTS

 
Chancellor's Council -

  • Nothing to report

 Charitable Awareness -

  • Promotion of Relay For Life
  • GRACE collection boxes should be set up soon

Last year the university delivered 7 truck load of goods for this charity

  • Discussion of BackPacks for Kids - looking for donations of non perishable items as money to provide for school age children.
Crisis -
  • Another campus wide testing is being prepared to go out later this month.

 
Faculty Senate

  • New Committee Members were elected

President - Doug Carroll

President Elect - Michael Schulz

Secretary - K.M. Isaac

Parliamentarian - Neil Book

  • Toomey Hall dedication has been scheduled for October 17th
  • Plans for renovations to the Recreation facilities will be coming soon
  • New Student Design Center will be located in the Miner Rec. bldg. renovations to begin soon
  • ABET accreditation currently scheduled for October 19 - 21

 
ISAC -

  •  Rebecca Bergdorf from Mizzou replaced Chris Dew who resigned his position
  • Betsy Rodriguez  was elected as new Vice-President for UM System HR was at the meeting and pledged to be at as many meetings as she could
  • Concerns from each campus was given for consideration

SALARY AND WAGE

  • Salary and Wage comparisons
  • Restructuring the classification and compensation for staff, would like to see it be more market based

BENEFITS

  •  More flexibility in retirement plans
  • Long term benefit planning
  • How to help employees know more about the benefits
  • Getting ready to implement a short term disability (STD) plan
  • Employee benefit survey to go out soon

HR INFO SYSTEM PROJECT - PEOPLESOFT

  • Lack of being able to do electronic application is leading HR to restructuring that system and help get a better applicant pool.
  • Applications thru My HR
  • Time and labor study on UMC campus facilities (electronic time keeping, use or not?)

 Information Technology Computing Committee -

  • This committee is currently tabled

 Parking -

  • Fist meeting for semester scheduled for October 8
  • Issues with motor cycle parking in Area A

Debbie Middendorf was elected to serve this committee

  • Surveys will soon be going out campus wide
  • Looking at the development of a Professional Development Program
  • Will be looking for what is needed and what is not needed
  • How to obtain what is needed 

Staff Recognition Awards -

  • Need to have a meeting with Joyce Abbott and Mindy Limbeck

 Campus Appearance -

  • Campus Appearance is on the upscale with tulips being planted around campus
  • Getting ready for homecoming
  • New design around Centennial Hall

 Campus Day Care -

  • Letha Young was added to this committee
  • Nothing to report
