Old Business
Staff Day- Everything is on schedule. The parking permit to be given as a raffle prize will not be taxed, since it is under $600. Just one pass will be given as a prize. Melissa Folsom has purchased the other raffle prizes. The theatre department is letting SC borrow some pirate costumes and props for the day. There may be photo opts available reflecting the theme. There will be two games rented from Hi-Striker at $100 each. Melissa Chambers volunteered to coordinate the pie auction. Roger Parsons will be the auctioneer. There will be a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the “goodie bags”. A meeting request from Outlook will be sent out.
New Business
Name Change – The name change to Missouri School of Science and Technology was approved by the Board of Curators effective Jan 1, 2008. There is a team that is being developed along with an outside firm to get logo ideas, etc. They are to have three ideas to present by fall. Each department will be surveyed as to the cost they will incur to make the change.
Earth Day – April 24, 2007 Havener Center.
Farewell gift for President Floyd. The motion was made and passed last month to contribute $50 for a gift for President Floyd. The request was then changed to a $200 contribution from each campus. The motion was made and passed that SC would only contribute $50.
Free T-shirts for staff council members for staff day was discussed. They could be a different color and have Staff Council on the back. This will be discussed with Kim and Melissa Flosom to see how it was handled last year.
Open Forum – SC will schedule and host an open forum with the Chancellor with Q&As for the staff in response to the staff survey. SC will also use this opportunity to relay to the campus where SC is going and what they hope to achieve. This will also be a good time to publicize staff day. There will be a planning meeting to set an agenda for the forum. Connie Bradford will chair along with Mendy, Robert, Chris and Kim. The committee will prepare some historical graphs. A tentative date for the forum is May 14. Chris will confirm with the Chancellor???s Office. Some suggestions were having a table with SC members in the front of the room; have a HR rep available to take questions; address the 80 and out retirement issue. SC hopes to gain credibility through the forum
Staff Excellence Awards- Part time category is a very gray area. Students are eligible according to the current criteria. The comment was made that anyone carrying the student title should not be eligible. There is only about 40 part-time staff in this category. The question was raised, “Is this enough to justify its existence?” Should the amount of this award be moved to the secretarial/clerical or service maintenance group? This needs to be looked at for next year. Melissa Chambers and Patty Frisbee will bring a report to next month’s meeting showing how many employees are in each category. Patty contacted each supervisor that had a part time person in their department to get nomination for the part-time category. There is only one nomination this year. The amount and number of awards was also discussed. The amounts of the awards are $600 less taxes. Another question posed was “Do we have to make the part-time award?” and “If we do not make the award, do we lose the money?” If we get to keep the money SC could add another award or use it to help with the cost of the lunch. There was also discussion about grossing the awards up so everyone would receive $600. After much discussion, Chris announced anyone that would like to make a motion to change the criteria for the part-time awards should submit a formal motion to Kim 10 days before the next meeting and it will be presented and voted on at that time.
Connie Bradford indicated that the General Operating money needs to be split out and a budget established.
There was a discussion on students participating in staff day. Based on the time of year there are few students on campus. Students can attend events, but will not get a free lunch or be eligible for door prizes. We can’t really keep them from buying tickets for the raffle prizes and participating in the pie auction. There will be a table for employees to register and to get their free lunch ticket. Retirees will also be welcome.
